California State University, Fresno was founded as Fresno State Normal School in 1911, became a teacher’s college in 1921, and has offered advanced degrees since 1949. The university’s popular nickname is “Fresno State.” Our mascot is the Bulldog.

Fresno State is one of the 23 campuses of the California State University, one of the largest systems of higher education in the world.

The university is accredited by the California Board of Education and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It has 26 nationally accredited departmental programs, among the highest number within the CSU system.

Fresno State’s 388-acre main campus and its 1,011-acre University Farm are located at the northeast edge of Fresno, California, at the foot of the majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range. The surrounding San Joaquin Valley is one of the richest agricultural areas in the world, and Fresno is the sixth largest city in California. The university is within an hour’s drive of many mountain and lake resorts and within a three- or four-hour drive of both Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (JCAST) shall be recognized for excellent teaching, research and outreach programs in agriculture, food sciences, industrial technology, and family sciences.

The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology offers high quality undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs and conducts applied research and public service in selected areas of agriculture, food sciences, industrial technology, and family sciences. Programs combine a science, technology and management focus with experiential learning. The College participates in the general education program of the University and seeks to enhance the ability of students to be successful in their chosen careers and to make positive contributions to the quality of life in their communities.

The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology pursues its mission through involvement in: direct instruction and student development; research, scholarly and creative activities; and institutional development.

Direct instruction and student development occurs through on-campus undergraduate and graduate course offerings; continuing education programs to industry; advising of students; and development of student skills outside the classroom through student organizations in the various program areas.

Research, scholarly and creative activities involve faculty, staff and students in projects to improve the educational process, discover new knowledge, find solutions to significant societal and industry problems, communicate findings to industry and society at large, and improve and develop new skills.

Institutional development efforts increase the number of students served; raise funds for scholarship and program support; and enhance alumni relations.

The California Agricultural Technology Institute (CATI) is a non-profit, educational institution dedicated to improving California agriculture. CATI is located at California State University, Fresno, in the center of the great San Joaquin Valley, in the heart of California agriculture.

CATI also provides central administration for the California State University Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), a multi-campus collaborative research partnership between the four CSU colleges of agriculture and the state’s agriculture and natural resources industries and allied business communities
